Apologies to 'a south american' if I blew off a little hard earlier. I joined a literature chatroom a couple of weeks ago to see what it was like and maybe find some intelligent conversation and, despite fairly low expectations in the first place, was bitterly disappointed. We all know there are stupid people out there in the world or, well, brainwashed ones anyway, in America anyway, voting for Bush, calling abortion murder and telling homosexuals they're very sorry but it's a simple fact that they are going to hell, but knowing about them and attempting to 'chat' to them online are very different things. The latter for me was just traumatising and after a week or two of wasting rhetorical energy on people who simply aren't interested in the basic principles of rhetoric, let alone subtlety and nuance, I was at the end of my rope and one more failure to be understood was just too much - not that I think 'a south american' is in any way comparable to that other lot.
