I didn't see this one, but I did notice Mills from Manchester who answered many of his team's questions. I know of a filmic Mariani, the eldest schoolboy in Andre Techine's 'Les Roseaux Sauvages'. He is one of the French settlers returning from Algeria, just before its independence. His dilemmas are much more political than his class-mates. Notice his ever-ready radio, detailing the demise of French Algeria while the other kids play ping-pong and discover themselves. But I digress. How much is down to good knowledge, and how much reaction? Mariani sounds like Moriarty, might he be a prof. one day too?
