Review

'Nuts in May' A TV film by Mike Leigh which was originally aired in the mid 1970s.

I saw the film on BBC2 about ten years ago and I laughed till I was blue in the face. It's a classic, It's a social comedy that sends you NUTS IN MAY.

Keith (Roger Sloman) and Candice-Marie (Alison Steadman) are the type of people who you may have encountered at some stage of your life; Keith is middle class, smug, ego driven and self-congratulating, while Candice is a little mouse. They go on a 10-day holiday at a country camping site. Keith is controlling and retentive in every action of the trip but it isn't long before they are disturbed by the arrival of Ray (Anthony O’Donnell), a college student who loudly plays his radio all day. Tensions between Keith and Ray begin but Candice steps in to calm things down. Another couple sets up site; Finger (Stephen Bill) and Honky (Sheila Kelley), they all lack of respect for Keith's rules finally culminating in a near fighting match.

It is a film that should be aired again on the BBC for a new generation of campers.
