Review

I read, but did not finish, a book on synaethesia 4 years ago, by Simon Baron-Cohen, Ali G's brother. It took a physiological approach to the idea of synaesthesia, investigating what might make someone's brain hear colours, see sounds etc. Baudelaire used to evoke these feelings in his poetry, such as 'L'invitation au voyage'. Was this just a metaphor or was he really feeling these senses? Perhaps it was a poetic persona, or a result of his experiments with drugs. Nonetheless, other people have claimed this special sense, not all of them artists. Have you had any such experiences?
