Mark Cousins documentary, irritating voice and all on channel 4 last night had me close to tears. Samira Makmalbaf is the avenging angel of wounded intelligence. Her father Mossen is a walking advert for the life of the mind. The documentary they revere from the sixties, The Black House, appears to be one of the world's great feats of cinematic art. Shame it probably won't be shown as part of this season, but S Makmalbaf's amazing film 'The Apple' is on tonight. Most others on the show were great too. I've never before felt such a strong desire to hug the people I saw on television.
