Artists as archivists. Don't you wish that instead of collecting old Polish films full of verve and creativity (I didn't watch them, just read the hyperbolic summaries), they made some new films about now?
I guess the past is fascinating by its very past nature, old photographs, magazines, posters, films gain value because time increases their particularity. And of course it's valid to exhibit objects of fascination, but to reiterate, why should artist admit defeat and stop trying to describe their own experiences and culture. And don't give me any bullshit about this stuff giving us insights into now. Everything does.
