Hmm....I suppose it depends on the gallery. I know that curators at the Hayward are a very dynamic bunch - no room for dead-wood there! Curators are usually a nice bunch and a reasonably diverse group. It is the dealers who can be unbearable. At a recent Association of Art / Antique Dealers event the pomposity, arrogance, and self-congratulatory air was suffocating. It seems to get worse with each generation coming into the trade as the initial passion has been replaced by the prospect of a cushy number. This is a gross generalisation as I do know the odd dealer of great integrity who is driven by a genuine passion for art and an evangelical desire to 'spread the word'. Would be keen to know other views on the subject of dealers. As a would be dealer myself am struggling with this!
