Overheard Tim Taylor talking to A D'offay in gallery.
TT: People in London don't have room for big paintings.
Dof: Is Charles been supportive?
TT: Yes, he chose a few. I didn't want him to have them all. I didn't think he took the best ones.
General chitchat about a party in Venice requiring a special wristband followed.
Thus is the exalted conversation of the leading lights of the art world.
Maloney's paintings are fresh and good and big. They show ordinary people. And look a bit like School murals. They borrow the patterning of Matisse, and the old colours of the Fauves. They make you feel enthusiastic about painting.
Boring people will dislike them.
