Not triumphant, except for Albert Oehlen who is head and shoulders and body and legs better than the others. Oehlen means what he paints, or paints what he means, his paintings are heavy with the essence of what makes painting good.
The others are twee, meretricious, slyly eager to please. They paint with doubt in their minds, and it is not the Descartian doubt which liberates intelligence, but the half-heartedness of those stuck between the market and the art-school, and not possessed of the strength of mind to fight their way out.
