Good painting. The one with the concrete attached to it. Such a heavy lump of stuff bolted on to one of his trademark sandy surfaces. A juxtaposition, obviously successfully. Some philosophical cloud surrounds it, metaphorically, doesn't matter because Kiefer scores his biggest hit in a long while. The Beuysy one with toy submarine, upstairs, is satisfying too.

Kiefer gets impact, the kind which takes your breath away and makes you want to think about what your seeing. His painting, like most these days is sui generis, not a movement others can join, more like a delightful dead-end of life given to what had seemed a corpse. Not reborn, just a mortal twitch.
