Yeah. Whereas proper gallery artists aren't out to promote themselves at all and really do bring about changes in people's consciousnesses. Oh my child.

I'm not sure it's relevant to say, he's more advertising than art or otherwise. The problem is more the stupidity of the general public, including magazine editors etc., who think if they like banksy, they like art. Also, there is a problem with banksy's intelligence himself, the ideas, self evident in everything he does, that these trite 'political' comments make a difference to anything at all. Judged by the standards of either advertising or art, then, he's comes out somewhat lacking in rigour. What he really fits is the place where he really is - the style media, that profoundly inauthentic realm of simulacra that feeds itself perpetually on the purported authenticity of the 'the street'. Logical then that banksy should have taken himself to the supposed barometer of another people's true mind, 'the Arab street'.
