having not seen it, I am talking out my hat, from the safety of the sofa. But, and disregarding the sheer audacity of Marc Quinn's literal stupidity, I think he has again managed to pull off a great piece of art. Bad ideas equal good art. The obvious become subtle, or beautiful, when made into the non-verbal marble, paint, or photo. All the reactionaries can hate it. But it represents all the good things about British contemporary art and life. Yes, we have the clear thoughts of disability, aesthetics, motherhood, genetics, broken sculpture, monumentality, mascu-femin-inity, and she sits there as a challenge and sign of a society where the heroes are fallen, and the Lappers of the world are something more than heroic, they are human and beautiful.
