Review

My girlfriend's house-mate has the DVD; she is a film buff. It was a trip down memory lane for me: this was one of the first VHS videos my family rented when we purchased our own recorder in 1980 something. They don't seem to show it on TV much these days. Have sensibilties changed that much, or would it cause too much offense in present climes? Some of the scenes have been so rehearsed by witless classmates and journalists that they were not that fresh, but I managed to see some bits in a new light, mainly sexual things which I didn't pick up as an 8 year-old. I felt that the religious mockery was somewhat forced, and got the impression that Monty Python set out to do this rather than 'religion is silly' being part of the story. But Python humour is not plot-driven so you're not so conscious of their foibles. It was funny to me, nonetheless, in a Pythonesque way but not my girlfriend who has not managed to watch past the opening sequence. One feature that really stood out was the numerous parts the actors played, Kind Hearts and Coronets revisited?
