Review

Tom Gallant cuts out patterns, William Morris wall paper designs, from pornographic images of women. The work tells us that it is a piece of feminist art, if we read the press release. Otherwise it might seem to be decoration that is very delicate and I am glad I didn’t have to do that. Marvel.

If you know your stuff you will understand that the artichoke – that makes up the pattern cut out – is a Victorian aphrodisiac reserved for men. Once you have read the press release you will be drawn to the images to look closer to see the porn. You will be happy to buy this work and put it on your wall in its neat white boxes, knowing that it is better than other type of origami or kirigami. It is art and what is more it is art with an agenda, and the bonus is, it is pretty. www.museum52.com
