Review

Nearly all 'cribs' are unspeakably vulgar; a warning against the sudden acquisition of enormous wealth without class, heritage, taste. One thing worse than buying ones own furniture, pace Alan Clarke - having it chosen by someone else. The typical apartment displays cold luxury in the manner of an expensive hotel, reflecting no aspect of the owner's personality beyond their bank balance, and probably scarcely lived in. Their walk-in wardrobes are larger than a normal person's whole house.

This programme should start a revolution; we should rise up. Instead we envy, and the advertisers sell their products in breaks. We buy what we can, and dream it makes us a little closer to these Gods of consumption.
