Review

Cruise is just one long grin in this weird late 80s film. You can feel the crash coming. Seems to say that money isn't everything, and that bartenders shouldn't sleep with ladies for their money, controversial stuff. The story's a bit jerky, and all the women have that frizzy eighties hair and the nice ones have sincere brown eyes. The bad bartender, played by the lovable Bryan Brown, ends up topping himself, which is his reward for cynicism. Cruise sincerely ends up with the young Shue running his bar, having been taught that naked ambition isn't the answer. Not one of the best.
