Jeff, an early influence on me, has that consciously academic rigour that enthuses young men of a pompous disposition. He is a serious artist and he has some good reason to be pleased with himself. His photos take looking at. But they somehow lack a little joy or brutality. He is the Cezanne of dead-pan and most important to most photographic art we see nowadays.
