Review

Munch, too teenage say the sophisticates. Anguish that obvious doesn't do it for us. Well. I with my feeble formalist notions, think Munch paints good. He chooses those weird colour combos, and treats background and foreground with equal twirl of scratchy munchy paint, and his paintings have the shallow depth of paintings from photos, v. contemporary. Yes mired in the 30s and 40s, occupied by Nazis, he paints himself with those curious bow legs and sad face, and interior and outside with bravado which contradicts his somewhat miserable subject matter. Alas poor Munch, the scream silences all that beautiful paint.
