Can sentimentality ruin a director's career? add in a fatal tendency towards whimsy and the answer may be yes. Like seeing a ship of puppies sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Ok quite pleasant and semi-watchable. But still mortally flawed by the desire for everything to be nice.
