Review

These dinosaurs of 19th Century capitalism are going out of business. We don't need shops to sell us toasters, perfume, and frumpy fashions under one roof, or we only need a few of them, or sexier ones like Selfridges.

Dickins and Jones of Regent st, and Barkers of Kensington (house of fraser brothers), are closing down, sounds like a nursery rhyme. They offer 50% off, sometimes more sometimes less, inspiring a frenzy of consumers, apocalyptic in tone, the evacuation of Saigon, the last days of the Tsar etc, the end of capitalism. As things, and I use this word definitively for once, are sold out, sections are closed off in an ersatz cardboard and masking tape way, no more designers needed thanks very much.

anice atmosphere.
