According to what I read in a magazine, once people are out of poverty (defined as less than 15,000 dollars a year) more money doesn't make them any happier. It just means they pay more for each bit of happiness they gain.
Also what happens to us doesn't affect our happiness much in the medium term. Psychologists found people who became paraplegic or won the lottery, returned to their pre-traumatic stated level of happiness after about a year.
So money or success or disaster doesn't change our happiness. Shit happens and we go on as before.
