Juan Usle at Frith Street Gallery London

They say he's one of the most important painters working today. When you see what he does, you'll think these are pleasant decorative abstractions. Usle's the sort of painter beloved of chain smoking 70s (praps earlier) painting tutors at the better art schools, brings on the raptures and shivers in those who feel they've been left behind by the muscular carnival which is cont. art. He's a tad mediocre and paint effecty. And the Frith St Gallery needs some filth. It is one of the most holy tasteful places I've ever visited, and I see why I'd never stepped through its well restored door before.
